Tuesday Calls

This story written by Crystal Phillips, a Compassion Boston Bible Worker.

One of my studies, Ruby, had called me two weeks in a row on Tuesday to cancel our Wednesday study. I was getting concerned that she wanted to quit studying altogether. It was suggested to me that I go to visit her on an unscheduled day with a gift. The next Tuesday, I dropped over to her house with a DVD about Daniel 2. She seemed surprised but happy to see me. She said that she had a doctor’s appointment the next day, but could definitely study the next week. The following Tuesday, I saw her phone number show up on my screen. “Oh no!” I thought, “It’s Tuesday and she’s calling me! This isn’t a good sign.” I braced myself and answered the phone.

“Hey Crystal, remember that DVD you gave me?” Ruby asked.

“Yeah,” I said.

“Do I have to pay you for that?”

“No,” I tell her, “I gave it to you on a loan basis. Once you’re done watching it, I’ll take it back. But you don’t have to give me any money for it.”

“Oh,” she said, “It was wrapped in plastic and the price on the back said $25.”

“Oh I see, well you don’t owe any money. You can watch the video free of charge.”

“Ok, I’m gonna watch it right now!”

“Ok, Ruby, I’m looking forward to our study tomorrow.”

“At four, right?” she confirmed.

“At four.”

She enjoyed the video, and we had our study the next day.
