Hyde Park SDA Church hosted their annual Family Fun day on August 14, 2016. Despite the threat of rain, the members and friends from neighboring churches were passionate about serving those in the Hyde Park community.
The Health Ministries team borrowed a health van for the day which helped them provide medical screening. This allowed the team to encourage those who came to visit to practice a healthy lifestyle.
There were several stations in the fellowship hall which provided visitors with vital information about practicing a healthy lifestyle through books, charts, and samples of delicious vegan treats with recipes. Sister Joan from the Waymark church provided tasty mini cups of green and fruit smoothies.
This year the organizers invited a masseuse who’sgentle and skillful touches allowed visitors to relax and feel stress free. We provided free food for all, and the grilled veggie burgers were a big hit.
The kids had a blast (there was a bouncy house) and they all left the event with back-to-school supplies. College studies also benefitted from the back to school supplies.
A local police officer came and talked to the children about safety tips. There was a scavenger hunt where we hid presents for the kids to find. We had toys, pet fish, and more items for the kids to participate in. The children had fun playing and jumping around getting to know each other.
The fun day allowed the members to fellowship outside the sacred Sabbath hours by playing games such an dominoes and getting acquainted with neighbors from the community. Vennica Nichaelson, a singing evangelist from Jamaica, blessed the attendees with several songs.
The family fun day was a great success and we are all looking forward to the next one. God has called us to serve, and we are thankful to all the members, family, and friends who came out to assist with the success of this event.
